Recall for Acura MDX 2014-2015

The NHTSA gave out information about the recall (#15V417000) for the air conditioning system on 106,439 units of the 2014-105 Acura MDX with production dates between April 23, 2013, and December 16, 2014. This recall doesn’t involve a major safety concern, but if you live in a warm climate or your summers are very hot, you might want to get your air conditioning fixed.

The recall problem is focused on the bolts on the air conditioning compressor clutch drive which may be missing the anti-corrosion coating. Because of this, the air conditioner clutch drive bolt may loosen or break, which could cause the AC clutch drive pulley to fall under the vehicle while in motion, potentially presenting a hazard to other vehicles.

No injuries or crashes: There have been no instances of injuries or crashes reported from Acura regarding this air conditioning recall issue. Acura discovered the issue through warranty claims about the air conditioning not working.

What needs to be fixed: Luckily, it’s an easy solution. Authorized dealers will replace the air conditioning bolts. They will also inspect the AC clutch plate and will replace it if needed. The repairs for replacing the AC bolts have already begun on some vehicles, according to NHTSA.

Next steps to take: Honda will notify you, instructing you to take your car to a dealer to replace the air conditioning compressor clutch drive bolt and install a new clutch plate if necessary, free of charge. Owners may contact Acura client relations at 1-800-382-2238. The Honda number is JQ7 for this recall. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

Contacting Acura: If your car falls within this recall group, take it to an authorized Honda dealer as soon as you get notice of the recall from Acura. The notices went out last July, so if you haven’t received your notice you can contact Acura at www.recalls.acura.com or call (800) 382-2238 and choose option 4.

Hopefully, that sums up everything you need to know. If you have a car that is affected by the recall, here are the full, technical recall details for the 2014 Acura MDX:
