According to the website law360.com, Toyota recalls 337K vehicles for suspension issues again this August. These problems are linked to repairs made during a previous recall. Independent Auto Care in Parker confirms it involves 337,000 Toyota RAV4 models from 2006-2011 and Lexus HS 250h models from 2010 that need to have the suspension arm assemblies replaced. Toyota is notifying the owners of the affected vehicles through the mail.
Toyota notes if the nuts used in a previous recall for adjusting the rear wheel alignment weren’t properly tightened when the alignment was performed, rust could form on its suspension arm threads. “If this occurs, and if the condition is not identified and remedied during servicing or repair under the existing remedy procedure, the threads can wear over time, causing the arm to separate, which could result in a loss of vehicle control,” Toyota said in its announcement. According to the website law360.com, this June Toyota said it would be recalling 3.37 million vehicles globally because of possible faulty air bag inflator components and emissions control units. The company warned both were prone to cracking in the affected vehicles, including 1.43 million Prius and Lexus-model vehicles equipped with air bag inflators made up of two chambers welded together, which could crack in between.
In addition, the recall included 2.87 million Prius, Corolla, Auris, Zelas, Lucas and Lexus models that had evaporative fuel emissions control units on the fuel tank that might also crack. (http://www.law360.com/articles/827997/toyota-recalls-337-000-vehicles-for-suspension-issues-again)
Last year’s Toyota recalls are related to air bag components made by Takata, whose inflator units are linked to some deaths and at least 100 injuries in the U.S.In May, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ordered the recall of 40 million additional Takata units, thought to be the largest recall in U.S. history. Toyota alone has recalled more than 4 million vehicles equipped with Takata parts. General Motors announced recently it may have to recall 4.3 million additional vehicles because of safety concerns about Takata airbags.
