The auto technicians here at Independent Auto Care in Parker agree that the Honda CR-V is an impressive compact crossover SUV, and it’s no wonder that they sell more than 400,000 per year.

The XSUV Market

The SUVs that are so sought after today for their ride, fuel economy, and electronic features, developed from the 4x4s of the 1970s. Now, the entry crossover SUV (XSUV) is the best-selling class of vehicle in the United States, surpassing mid-size cars and becoming a vehicle preferred by female drivers.

The CR-V is a member of Honda’s vehicle lineup that also includes the Accord, Civic, and Odyssey. The CR-V is often compared to the Toyota RAV4, Nissan Rogue, and Ford Escape.

In 2016, it was named one of the 16 best family cars by the Kelly Blue Book website, which had this to say about the vehicle, “Thankfully, this small family car doesn’t forsake Mom or Dad. Whoever is driving will enjoy the CR-V’s excellent blend of comfort, power efficiency, and good visibility.”

Get to Know the CR-V

One reason why the new Honda CR-V may become Honda’s best selling vehicle is that the company has created a more luxurious feel by adding more standard features in lower trim levels. The Forbes article goes on to recognize the CR-V for its outstanding finish and upgraded interior with soft touch materials.

The CR-V has evolved into a longer, wider, and higher vehicle. The grille design follows the new Honda Pilot XSUV and Ridgeline pickup. The wheel openings are bigger for larger tires and wheels. Honda has even given it a new turbocharged 4-cylinder engine along with a continuously variable transmission on all models but the base LX trim level.

Along with the Kelly Blue Book review, Forbes agrees the visibility is excellent from the driver’s seat. The large electronic instrument panel is brilliantly lit and easily accessible. The new Honda CR-V showcases a volume control knob for the audio system after complaints about the previous the slider control. And the rear seat is expanded.

Honda also touts the CR-V’s safety. The 2016 CR-V earned a 5-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and a 2016 top safety pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Its Honda Sensing driver-assist technology includes blind spot warning and cross-traffic warning as part of the EX trim level. It also has adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, collision mitigation braking system, road departure mitigation, and lane keeping assist.

With the company focused on adding features and improving safety, the new Honda CR-V may become Honda’s best-selling vehicle.
